Sunday Sun and Serging

After five straight days of rain and gloom, it was sunny again in Sacramento...for a couple hours. Then it rained. Then the sun came out. Then it rained while the sun was out.

A view from our alleyway.
Sunny when we stepped out...

Sudden downpour when we came home.

Honestly, we shouldn't be complaining with all the sunny warm weather we've had. It's good we got some much needed rain in the area, though I hate to think of the allergy attacks that will surely follow.

I still like those sunny nippy days the best.

This weekend I finally plucked up the courage to learn how to use my serger, and I'm so happy for having done it. It was complicated, as I flipped through the pages of my manual, technique guide, and two library books on the subject. My initial intimation was well-founded. It is a complex little machine, and these books and manuals just throw techniques at you without really explaining what the damn thing does.

Me at my serger.

There are, no joke, about 30 steps to threading this machine.

But, I'm slowly getting it. I feel like I've just barely touched on the possible applications of my overlock machine.

So through all the rain I've been sewing up a storm and snapping photos for tutorials. Tutorials are hard work. Seriously. I have no idea how some people churn them out so quickly. I've edited photos for an applique pillow case tutorial, and hopefully I will find time tonight or tomorrow to transcribe my notes and put it all together.

Until then I'm off to sew a skirt.
