Belated Valentine's Wishes

Valentine's, while fun, has never been my favorite holiday. My mom always left me a few sweets and toys as a kid, and Mike always gets me some chocolate or conversation hearts, but it feels so artificial and commercial.

This year, though, we decided we weren't going to give our money to CVS for overpriced chocolate and cheaply printed greeting cards. In fact, we didn't even celebrate on the actual day, since Mike had Monday off. And although we did spoil ourselves with a little Harry and David giftbox (the red velvet one; my lips are stained pink from all that food coloring), we decided to be less commercial about the whole day. Here's what we did:

We went to the California State Railroad Museum. I thought it would be mostly geared towards children, but it was really interesting and fun.

I liked the old surveyor's equipment.

Afterwards, we walked around Old Town a bit and grabbed lunch at Rio City Cafe.

Then we came home and made a heart shaped pizza and drank the sweetest thing, a most delicious but extremely potent cocktail.

It was nice to take an evening to focus on our love and our relationship. We definitely needed it, whether or not it was Valentine's Day.

I hope that each of you, whether single or attached, had a lovely week even if there were no hearts or chocolate involved.

  1. What a fun celebration! And unique. I love that heart pizza. CB and I celebrated on Monday as well. We decided to adopt a pup from the humane society, so we spent the afternoon buying things for him. Then we went to a dinner/fundraiser thing to help kids with cancer. It was low key, extremely casual, and so romantic because I was in stitches the whole day. It showed me that I have the best time with him and laugh with him, so who needs all the fancy stuff. Glad you had a nice Vday, my friend!
